1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Aplitiq Ltd ("Aplitiq," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information in connection with the ApliNews mobile application (the "App"). ApliNews is a news aggregation service that surfaces summaries and headlines of third-party news content and links users to original publisher websites.

We are committed to handling your information responsibly and transparently. Please read this Policy carefully. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

Key point: ApliNews does not require you to create an account. Each installation is identified only by an anonymous, randomly generated device identifier. We do not knowingly collect your name, email address, or phone number through the App itself.

2. Who We Are

Aplitiq Ltd is the data controller responsible for the App. You can reach us at:

  • App-specific support: aplinews-contact@aplitiq.com
  • General company contact: support@aplitiq.com

Website: https://aplitiq.com/aplinews/

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Collected Automatically

When you use ApliNews, the following categories of information are collected automatically through our infrastructure providers (principally Google Firebase and Google AdMob):

  • Anonymous identifier: Each device is assigned a unique, randomly generated identifier via Firebase Anonymous Authentication. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any other directly identifying information you provide to us, and is generated automatically — it does not require you to sign up or log in.
  • Device and usage analytics: Through Firebase Analytics, we collect data such as device model, operating system version, language settings, approximate location (derived from IP address, at city/region level), app version, session duration, screens viewed, and general in-app interactions (e.g., articles opened, categories browsed, time spent reading).
  • Crash and diagnostic data: Through Firebase Crashlytics, we collect technical diagnostic information when the App crashes or encounters errors, including device state, stack traces, and the anonymous device identifier, to help us identify and fix bugs.
  • Behavioral data for personalization: We analyze your reading behavior within the App (such as topics and articles you engage with) to build a personalized news feed. This profiling is based solely on in-app behavior tied to your anonymous device identifier — not on your real-world identity.
  • Advertising data: Through Google AdMob and its mediation partners (including Meta Audience Network and Unity Ads), advertising identifiers and related interaction data may be collected to serve and measure ads, and, where applicable, to measure and limit ad frequency and detect invalid traffic.
  • Locally stored data: Your saved articles and reading lists / bookmarks are stored either on your device and/or associated with your anonymous identifier so that your reading list is available across sessions.
  • Country selection: The country you select at first launch is stored to determine which news content and language options are shown to you.

3.2 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not require or request your name, email address, phone number, government ID, or payment card details through the App. We do not ask for or knowingly collect precise GPS location — only the approximate, IP-derived location used for analytics and content relevance described above.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above for the following purposes:

  • To operate, maintain, and deliver the core functionality of the App, including displaying news summaries and saved reading lists.
  • To personalize the news feed and content recommendations shown to you, based on your in-app reading behavior.
  • To monitor, analyze, and improve App performance, stability, and user experience.
  • To diagnose, debug, and fix technical issues and crashes.
  • To serve, measure, and moderate advertising within the App through AdMob and its mediation partners.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations and to protect the rights, safety, and property of Aplitiq, our users, and third parties.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

Where required by applicable law, we rely on the following legal grounds to process your information:

  • Legitimate interests: for analytics, personalization, crash diagnostics, and service improvement.
  • Consent: where required by local law for advertising identifiers or similar technologies, which you may be able to manage through your device settings.
  • Performance of a service: to provide the App's features that you have requested, such as saving articles to your reading list.

ApliNews is currently directed primarily at users in Morocco, with other countries to be enabled progressively. The App does not knowingly target or market itself to users located in the European Union / European Economic Area, and EU/EEA users are not currently within the App's intended audience. If this changes, this Policy will be updated accordingly, including with respect to GDPR-specific rights and mechanisms.

6. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on the following categories of third-party providers to operate ApliNews. These providers process data under their own privacy policies and, where applicable, as our data processors:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics) — infrastructure, analytics, and crash reporting.
  • Google AdMob — advertising serving and measurement.
  • Meta Audience Network and Unity Ads — advertising mediation partners that may receive advertising identifiers to serve ads within the App.
  • Webz.io — our news content aggregation provider, from which we retrieve publicly available news article metadata, headlines, and summaries. Webz.io does not receive personal data about you from us in connection with this integration.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your information with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.

7. Data Retention

We retain analytics and crash data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, consistent with the retention periods configured in Firebase (generally up to 14 months for analytics data, subject to our configuration and Google's defaults). Locally stored reading lists and bookmarks persist until you delete the App or clear its data, or until you delete individual saved items within the App.

8. Children's Privacy

ApliNews is not directed at children, and our intended minimum age for use of the App is 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under this age. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a user below the applicable minimum age, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because ApliNews does not collect directly identifying information and operates on an anonymous device-identifier basis, many such requests can be most effectively exercised through the in-app controls described below or by uninstalling the App, which removes the locally stored anonymous identifier and associated local data from your device.

You can also exercise control over your data in the following ways:

  • Advertising identifier: You may reset or limit your device's advertising identifier, or opt out of personalized/interest-based advertising, through your device's operating system settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking; Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads).
  • Uninstalling the App: Uninstalling ApliNews removes locally stored data from your device, including your reading list, and discontinues further collection tied to your prior anonymous identifier on that device.
  • Contacting us: You may submit any data-related request to us at aplinews-contact@aplitiq.com, and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.

10. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information processed in connection with the App, including reliance on Google Firebase's security infrastructure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. International Data Transfers

Our service providers, including Google Firebase and Google AdMob, may process and store data on servers located in countries other than your own, including the United States and other jurisdictions where Google and its partners operate data centers. By using the App, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in such jurisdictions.

12. Morocco-Specific Disclosures

In accordance with Law No. 09-08 relating to the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, and applicable regulations of the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP):

  • Aplitiq Ltd is in the process of completing the applicable notification/registration formalities with the CNDP for the processing activities described in this Policy.
  • Users located in Morocco have the right to access, rectify, and, in certain circumstances, oppose the processing of personal data concerning them, exercised by contacting us using the details in Section 2.
  • We process personal data in a manner intended to be proportionate to the purposes described in this Policy.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the App's functionality, or applicable law. We will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this Policy when we do so, and, where changes are material, we will provide additional notice within the App where practicable. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
